LONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization says it's worried that millions of doses of polio vaccine might be wasted in Ukraine after a patient group raised concerns that the doses are unsafe.</div>

The U.N. health agency announced last month that the crippling disease had been identified in Ukraine for the first time in nine years and warned that low immunization rates put the country at high risk of an outbreak.</div>

Polio is a potentially fatal water-borne disease that mainly strikes children and has been brought under control in all but two countries in the world.</div>

The all-Ukrainian Council for Patients' Rights and Safety says the 3.7 million doses of oral polio vaccines donated by the United Nations partially thawed out on the plane to Ukraine and now shouldn't be used. The government is considering this week what to do with them.</div>

According to WHO guidelines, the vaccine must be kept frozen while being stored, although thawing and freezing are normal parts of transporting the doses. Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine's maker, said the temperature changes reported do not affect the vaccine's potency.</div>

"There is doubt about the quality of the (vaccines)," said Viktor Serdyuk, president of the Ukrainian patients group that already has a working relationship with WHO.</div>

Serdyuk said he wasn't sure what should be done with the vaccines but options include destroying them. The Ukrainian health minister did not respond Thursday to requests for comment.</div>

WHO's European director Zsuzsanna Jakab insisted the vaccines are "absolutely safe" and said it's crucial that a planned vaccination campaign start next week to protect Ukrainian children from the paralyzing, potentially fatal disease.</div>

Although only two cases of polio have been detected in Ukraine so far, there are likely hundreds of other asymptomatic children spreading the virus. The region where the cases were found also borders Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland.</div>

Jakab said she is concerned that vaccine rumors might lead the health ministry to suspend immunization efforts.</div>

"If the ministry of health is not empowered to start vaccinating, then we need to reach a higher level of government," Jakab said. "If the vaccination campaign doesn't start on Monday, then I will get on a plane and go to Ukraine personally to speak to the president."</div>

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently confirmed the occurrence of two vaccine-derived polio cases in Ukraine and one case in Mali. The vaccine-derived polio cases are the ones caused by a mutant from the original wild poliovirus.<br />
<br />
The circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 1, or cVDPV1, had affected children aged 4 years and 10 months in Ukraine, respectively. The dates of onset of paralysis among the children have been reported to be between June 30 and July 7, 2015.<br />
<br />
The Guinean child in Bamako, Mali, has been affected by circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2, or cVDPV2. The 19-month-old child's paralysis started one week prior to his arrival in Bamako for the medical treatment.<br />
<br />
Although the number of reported cases of polio has significantly reduced globally, WHO believes that the incidence of three newly reported cases in Mali and Ukraine suggest why no country can be complacent about it and that every child should be immunized against the disease. Ukraine, on the other hand, has very low rates of polio immunization.<br />
<br />
In June 2013, medical journal Lancet revealed that only 50 percent of the Ukrainian children are immunized against deadly diseases, including polio, rubella and measles, thanks to the anti-vaccination outlook within the country. A UNICEF survey claimed that only 46 percent of the citizens in Ukraine have a positive outlook toward immunization, thus putting the unimmunized children at a risk of contracting the deadly diseases.<br />
<br />
The most common form of anti-polio vaccination provided to the children is the oral vaccine. The oral vaccine contains live, weakened virus that prevents the gut of the vaccinated child against all the types of wild poliovirus, thus preventing paralysis.<br />
<br />
However, in rare cases, the weakened virus is also known to cause paralysis. It is estimated that the vaccine has caused paralysis in around 300 million children who received their first dose of immunization. Therefore, a number of high-income countries, including Australia, have switched to a new version of the injectable vaccine, which contains dead or inactivated polio virus. Such a vaccine protects the gut against the disease, however, does not result in paralysis.<br />
<br />
In addition, the virus from the oral vaccine is excreted over a period of six to eight weeks The excreted virus replicates in the environment and during the process, sometimes gets genetically mutated. These mutated versions are called circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses, or cVDPV, and can cause paralysis. Under-immunized children are at a great risk of catching the virus circulating in the contaminated water and food. There are three types of cVDPVs identified so far.<br />
<br />
WHO, therefore, has stressed on the importance of maintaining high immunization rates within the countries to stop such deadly outbreak of the polio virus.<br />

Get used to it. We live in an Orwellian landscape. When there is a really serious story that needs to be censored, it is. It gets little or no play. It’s buried. And vaccines is one of those stories.<br />

Here, from thevaccinereaction.org, is a shocker: “The French National Debate on Vaccines,” by Marco Caceres, August 19:<br />

“Between 2005 and 2010, the proportion of French people in favour or very in favour of vaccination dropped from 90% to 60% (2013 INPES Peretti-Watel health barometer). The percentage of French people between the ages of 18 and 75 who are anti-vaccination increased from 8.5% in 2005 to 38.2% in 2010. In 2005, 58% of doctors questioned the usefulness of vaccines administered to children while 31% of doctors were expressing doubts about vaccine safety. These figures must surely have increased since then.”<br />
<br />
France has punched a gaping hole in the fake consensus about vaccines.<br />
<br />
In the US and other countries, people are taught there is an overwhelming positive attitude about vaccines. Allowing this story about France to leak and bleed into major media would refute that lie in a second.<br />
<br />
Not only is consensus built through relentless propaganda, but when the consensus doesn’t exist because the propaganda fails, that fact is blacked out.<br />
<br />
To put it another way, major media exist to invent consensus, and when they can’t, they hide the fact.<br />
<br />
American medical reporters for mainstream outlets are among the worst journalists in the world. Over the years, I’ve spoken to some of them. They try to radiate scientific authority, but behind that front they’re a) brainwashed morons or b) sold-out pharmaceutical shills.<br />
<br />
The shills hype medical drugs, vaccines, and just-over-the horizon research breakthroughs with the phony conviction of late-night infomercial spokespeople.<br />
<br />
One reason a high percentage of the French oppose vaccines is: out in the countryside, they still know what good clean food is. Based on several conversations I’ve had with people who live there, the fresh local produce makes American food, by comparison, taste like cardboard. The French understand that real nutrition is a key to preserving health.<br />
<br />
That’s why pharmaceutical giants are rooting hard for GMOs and pesticides, and are, in some cases, producing them. The more GMOs and chemical poisons on the land, the lower the level of general health, and the easier it is to peddle vaccines and drugs as a necessary answer.<br />
<br />
That’s how the game is played.
