Real target in Syria is Bashar al-Assad, not the Islamic State

On Monday the US-led coalition targeted the Saeqa military camp near the western town of Ayyash in the province of Deir ez-Zor. Four Syrian soldiers were killed and 16 others injured.
The airstrike was confirmed by the Syrian foreign ministry. It said nine missiles were fired at the camp.
The United States denies it attacked the camp.
“Syria strongly condemns the act of aggression by the US-led coalition that contradicts the UN Charter on goals and principles. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent letters to the UN Secretary General and the UN Security Council,” the foreign ministry told SANA, the Syrian government news agency.
It is the first time the coalition has directly attacked the Syrian military.
In September, 2014 President Obama said the mission of the coalition is to “degrade and ultimately destroy” the Islamic State. “I have made it clear that we will hunt down terrorists who threaten our country, wherever they are. That means I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria, as well as Iraq.”
The Syrians have characterized the airstrikes against the Islamic State as a failure. The US-led campaign has“achieved nothing” and IS “has become stronger in both Iraq and Syria under the American war against terrorism,” Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said in September.
The attack in Deir ez-Zor arrived hours after the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad condemned Britain’s intervention in the conflict. He said British airstrikes are “harmful and illegal and it will support terrorism.”
Critics say the US-led coalition is not interested in defeating the Islamic State and are working to undermine the Syrian government.
“If they [the United States and its partners] were serious about dealing with ISIL [IS] they would be meeting in Damascus right now with President Assad to ask how they can help him and Russia destroy ISIL instead of playing political games and pretending the Syrian government does not exist,”Christopher Black, a Canadian international criminal lawyer, said last month.
“The United States and its dependencies in Europe and Canada do not want to cooperate with Syria or Russia on this [counterterrorism efforts] because their primary objective is not as they claim to destroy ISIL but to destroy the government of Syria as they did the government in Libya and Iraq.”
Declassified Defense Intelligence Agency documents from 2012 reveal the Pentagon is working with the Gulf States and Turkey to “isolate the Syrian regime” and establish a Salafist principality in Syria.
Earlier this year the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency,Michael Flynn, confirmed the conclusion of the DoD document and stated it was “a willful decision” by the United States to support the Islamic State and al-Nusra.
Iraqi intelligence has long accused the United States of supporting the Islamic State. US military planes “have airdropped several aid cargoes for ISIL terrorists to help them resist the siege laid by the Iraqi army, security and popular forces,” according to the Iraqis.
