Russian President Putin has ruled out Russia's participation in military operations in Syria. According to him, Moscow will help Bashar Assad in the struggle against ISIS, but it goes about military hardware only. More than two thousand fighters from the former Soviet Union are currently staying in Syria. They may return to Russia so instead of waiting for them to come, it is better to help Assad destroy them in Syria, Putin said.

Vladimir Jabarov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for international affairs at the Federation Council:

"It is the supreme commander who makes decisions. If he says so, then it means that he understand the impossibility of that for Russia. A ground operation would be possible under the auspices of the UN Security Council. A large international anti-terrorist coalition will be created to either destroy ISIS militants or force them to peace. The president will not allow anyone to get Russia involved or use Russia for the solution of the Syrian conflict."
