Ukraine cannot do without Russian coal, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn admitted on Tuesday.

He said he hoped supplies of Russian anthracite coal for Ukrainian electricity plants would be resumed within months. He said coal supplies from Russia was "a political matter."

"As far as I know, Centrenergo bought minor volumes, Donbassenergo, as far as I understand, plan to do it in future," he said, adding that the latter company had corresponding contracts with the Russian side.

Demchyshyn said he hoped for Russian coal, since the country can take it from nowhere else.
